Tennessee Biotechnology Association Adopts New Name to Reflect Renewed Focus on Growing State’s Life Science Industry

Life Science Tennessee is a statewide, member association representing companies, universities and research institutes, government groups and other business organizations.

NASHVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Tennessee Biotechnology Association (TBA) today announced a new name and identity: Life Science Tennessee. The change marks a new beginning for the state member-driven association, which was founded in 1999 to give a voice to the industry and help grow Tennessee’s bioeconomy.

“Tennessee is already doing amazing work in the life sciences, and the potential to grow this industry in our state and bring with it the economic opportunity, the high-paying jobs, the innovations and the course-altering discoveries is an exciting proposition.”

The Life Sciences encompass a broad field of companies in “the study of life,” including biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, biomedical technologies and devices, biofuels, food processing and the organizations and institutions – such as Oak Ridge National Laboratory, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the University of Tennessee and Vanderbilt – that devote the majority of their efforts to the various stages of research, development, technology transfer and commercialization.

“The goal of our organization is to create investment and partnering opportunities, help attract and retain the best talent and provide networking and educational opportunities within the life science industry in Tennessee. Therefore, casting a broader net, both in name and in spirit, and being the organization that advances all the Life Sciences makes sense,” said Joe Cook Jr., Life Science Tennessee board member, investor and industry expert. “Tennessee is already doing amazing work in the life sciences, and the potential to grow this industry in our state and bring with it the economic opportunity, the high-paying jobs, the innovations and the course-altering discoveries is an exciting proposition.”

Life Science Tennessee will make its official debut during the organization’s annual meeting Nov. 12 at the Renaissance Hotel downtown. This year’s meeting – The Business of Science: Growing the Life Science Industry in Tennessee – features presentations from:
