Michigan’s Kettering University and Florida’s Pasco-Hernando Community College Sign Agreement to Build More Technical Talent for the Tampa Bay Region

The agreement looks to develop a stronger pool of engineers and scientists and create more ‘industry-ready’ workers for the Tampa Bay Region.

NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The presidents of Pasco-Hernando Community College in Florida and Kettering University in Michigan signed a fully articulated academic agreement Wednesday, Feb. 17, to develop a stronger pool of engineers and scientists and create more ‘industry-ready’ workers for the Tampa Bay Region.

Dr. Katherine Johnson, president of Pasco-Hernando Community College (PHCC), and Dr. Stanley R. Liberty, president of Kettering University, officiated at the signing ceremony at PHCC’s West Campus in New Port Richey.

Dr. Johnson said the collaboration between the two institutions will allow Florida students to earn academic credits toward a bachelor of science degree at Kettering while attending classes at PHCC. “This new partnership will provide local students with exciting options to pursue upper level opportunities at Kettering, especially in the engineering and science fields. The further training will also increase the technical talent base in business and industry in the Tampa Bay Region now and in the future,” she explained.

Dr. Liberty said Kettering is pleased to form this unique academic partnership. “The collaboration between Kettering’s nationally ranked private engineering, science, math and business university in Michigan and Florida’s highly respected PHCC campuses will ensure a smooth transition for Florida students. Students will begin their college studies and co-op experiences in their home state and then transfer into the country’s most advanced professional co-operative education program,” he added.

Initially, PHCC students will spend their first two years at PHCC and their final 2 ½ years in Kettering’s unique baccalaureate program.
