TechConnect Innovation Tracking: Algal Scientific, a TechConnect Accelerator participant-Boston MA, 2011

Algal Scientific is commercializing technology using algae instead of traditional bacteria in the treatment process. This technology costs less, performs better technically and environmentally, and produces valuable biomass that can be converted into fuels, fertilizer, animal feed and other co-products. The Accelerate Michigan Innovation Competition notes it is the largest business plan competition in North America.  The judge’s panel reviewed more than 300 submissions, and narrowed the semifinalists down to 53 companies in eight categories, including Alternative Energy, Advanced Materials, Next Generation Manufacturing, Life Sciences, and Medical Device.  Competing for more than $1 Million US in cash and prizes, all competition participants will also have access to Michigan’s entrepreneurial infrastructure, including access to wet labs, incubators, and expert advice.
