NSF to provide $18.5 Million US to the research team to develop nano-enabled, wearable medical devices

The research will focus on developing novel medical devices activated through human body heat and motion, being able to monitor the person’s health and how their environment affects it.  The grant will be distributed over a five year period.  The consortium will go by the acronym ASSIST-the Nanosystems Engineering Research Center for Advanced Self-Powered Systems of Integrated Sensors and Technologies.  The nano-enabled medical device research is another method by which to personalize medicine and also monitor the overall wellness of a person.

In addition to North Carolina State University, the research team will include scientists from Florida International University, Pennsylvania State University, the University of Virginia, the University of Adelaide-AU, the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), and the Tokyo Institute of Technology.
