What are technology/solution areas that you have a primary interest in?

At Mosaic, our mission is to help the world grow the food it needs. Our company was formed in 2004, and today we are the world’s largest combined producer of phosphates and potash. We responsibly mine, manufacture and deliver commercial crop nutrients to customers in every key agriculture market.

Our fertilizers and feed products efficiently and sustainably increase agricultural production. Furthermore, commercial retailers gain a differentiating edge in a competitive market by selling Mosaic’s innovative premium products, while growers who use them achieve efficiency, yield gains and greater profit potential.

Our primary innovation interests are the core stages of our value chain, including mineral mining, product manufacturing, crop nutrition science, agronomy and nutrient management. Specific product innovation focus areas include:

What level of commercial maturity do you typically look for in technology partnerships?

Mosaic is interested in technologies and partnerships that have proven value in manufacturing, research or trials, as well as those that are near commercialization. We are also open to evaluating new opportunities or project collaborations that call for R&D, development and testing.

Please describe your company’s Innovation model and how this model helps to find new innovations.

At Mosaic, we execute innovation at every level of our operations through process innovation and continuous improvement. We also seek to advance our market position and provide shared value to customers and stakeholders through product innovation and sustainability. We use the Stage-Gate® model to execute this strategy.

New product development at Mosaic is focused on generating ideas, formulating products, and testing those products in multiple geographies around the world. In 2014, Mosaic conducted more than 500 efficacy trials with highly regarded private researchers and universities, as well as customers and growers. Our goal is to develop products that deliver higher yields and increase fertilizer efficiency.

Since the forming of the company, Mosaic has pioneered the development of premium crop nutrition products. Today our portfolio includes industry-leading products like MicroEssentials®, K-Mag® and Pegasus®. These products match the sophisticated level of today’s most advanced plant genetics, crop protection and equipment technologies.

Why work with TechConnect and the National Innovation Summit as a technology prospector? Who are you looking to meet with?

We are attending the TechConnect’s Summit for the first time this year. Our aim is to expand our network and discuss potential cross-sector opportunities where collaboration or the commercialization of solutions could help Mosaic deliver value to customers and growers. We have a great track record for working with best-in-class researchers and partners, and we hope to continue building shared value through these types of initiatives.
