Using nanotechnology, Stanford University engineers create faster, more energy efficient computer

The computer uses transistors made of carbon nanotubes.

Many scientists have attempted to utilize CNTs to replace current silicon transistors.  The research team was led by Stanford professors Subhasish Mitra Ph.D. ‘00 and H.S. Philip Wong. The electronics sector has an ever-increasing demand for thinner and thinner devices. Typically, the smaller the transistor, the more energy required and the more power that is wasted. Carbon nanotubes offer low-power computing with improved energy efficiency, both in conducting and controlling electricity.
