Co-located with the Islands & Isolated Communities Congress and International OTEC Symposium, the joint events provide global solutions to island, climate, and military resiliency.

The Asia Pacific Clean Energy Summit & Expo will take place September 9-11, 2013 at the Hawaii Convention Center, Honolulu, HI.  The co-located Islands & Isolated Communities Congress and the International OTEC Symposium will run concurrently with the Summit.  More than 1,500 attendees from 30+ countries will participate at all three events, providing a forum for the high-level global networking necessary to advance clean energy initiatives and island innovations around the world.

A stellar lineup of keynote speakers will present at APCESE, including:
• Governor Neil Abercrombie, State of Hawaii
• Peter Boyd, Chief Operating Officer, Carbon War Room
• Mark Glick, Energy Program Administrator, Department of Business, Economic Development & Tourism (DBEDT), State of Hawaii
• Thomas Hicks, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Energy, U.S. Navy
• Ronald Jumeau, Ambassador for Climate Change and Small Island Developing State Issues, Republic of Seychelles, United Nations
• Richard Lim, Director, DBEDT, State of Hawaii
• Clay Nesler, Vice President, Global Energy and Sustainability, Johnson Controls, Inc.
• Tomoyo Nonaka, Chair, GAIA Initiative; Former Chair & CEO, Sanyo
• Henk Rogers, Founder and Chairman, Blue Planet Foundation

Securing energy independence and developing a clean energy industry that promotes the vitality of the world are two reasons why it is critical to reaffirm already established partnerships and build new ones throughout the Asia-Pacific region and the world.  Many nations, the US Department of Energy, and the US Department of Defense have invested in Hawaii’s clean energy initiatives, positioning the State of Hawaii as a world leader in emerging clean energy technologies.

Conference Highlights include:
• Defense Energy Technology Challenge (DETC) and Showcase: Hear from Winners and Invited Companies of DETC as they present their clean energy solutions in front of Department of Defense leaders and conference attendees.
• Global Islands Solutions Challenge: Finalists to present technology solutions, best practices and project proposals from around the globe to accelerate the sustainability development of island communities world-wide.
• Sessions featuring expert speakers and panelists focused on various clean energy topics, including: renewable energy, energy storage, micrgrids, biofuels, EV, water, and more.
• Carbon War Room 10 Island Challenge keynote and panel session to focus on addressing island community resiliency and solutions in the face of climate change and imported energy dependencies.
• OTEC Symposium: Co-hosted by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and Korean Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST), the Symposium will provide a platform for information exchange and discussion, and will identify steps to OTEC commercialization for public and industrial sectors.

“The resiliency of island communities depends on integrating best practices for clean energy, water, agriculture, security, transportation, disaster management and societal actions,” notes Mark McGuffie, Managing Director, Enterprise Honolulu.  “As island communities are facing complex challenges, the Islands and Isolated Communities Congress is focused on “building bridges” to implement scalable solutions and forging new economic ties for Hawaii and beyond.”

“The convergence of all three events provide a truly global perspective on clean energy,” notes Matthew Laudon, President of the Clean Technology and Sustainable Industries Organization (CTSI).  “The annual Asia Pacific Clean Energy Summit is the pivotal event that brings together international thought-leaders from across the energy ecosystem.”
