Austin, Texas. - April 24, 2008 - Clean Technology and Sustainable Industries Organization (CTSI), a not-for-profit industry trade organization committed to the commercialization and global adoption of clean technologies and sustainable industry practices, announced that it will be creating a new branch in Austin and designating it as the new global headquarters of the organization.

“We are excited to be working with such quality organizations in a community that believes sustainability is core to its long-term growth,” said Patricia Glaza, CEO of CTSI. CTSI today also announced Austin Energy and Applied Materials as local, founding members of the organization.

The location of the CTSI headquarters in Austin will increase the global brand awareness of Austin as a leader in sustainable technology commitment and infrastructure, in addition to further bolstering Austin’s cleantech community and regional economic development efforts.

CTSI is an international network focused on offering a wide range of industries the forum to advance clean technology development, profitable commercialization and global assimilation of sustainable industry practices. This in turn facilitates the transformation of companies and communities to a more sustainable global economy.

Austin Energy, as an executive founding member, will have the opportunity to work jointly with CTSI in the areas of transportation, green construction and building, distributed electricity generation, greenhouse gas reduction, water/energy management and industrial energy efficiency. As an executive founding member Austin Energy will receive numerous benefits including annual identification of global best practices in the areas of energy, environment and climate management as well as access to research, technology assessments, marketing and policy support.

“Applied is quickly growing its solar manufacturing equipment business and has been an appreciative corporate citizen of Austin for two decades,” said Steve Taylor, Applied Materials corporate affairs manager. “We hope that our support of CTSI and its move into Austin ultimately will foster local solar business development and new, solar-related jobs for Central Texas.”

The Clean Energy Incubator, City of Austin and the Austin Chamber of Commerce through its Clean Energy Council (CEC) have all supported the project since inception.

“We look forward to playing our part by fully integrating CTSI into our local clean energy efforts through the Clean Energy Council,” said Joel Serface, Director of the Clean Energy Incubator and Chair of the Chamber’s Clean Energy Council. “The addition of CTSI will provide a much needed boost to ongoing initiatives as well as assist with promoting Austin as an international center in cleantech innovation, manufacturing, deployment and expertise.”

The Austin Chamber organized the Clean Energy Council to assist in raising awareness of Austin’s cleantech initiatives and to further growth of the Central Texas economy. The CEC is comprised of leading clean energy experts and serves as a strategic resource for cleantech companies residing or moving to the Austin region. The collective mission of the Clean Energy Council is to build a foundation on which Austin can grow its cleantech economy and emerge as the Clean Energy Capital of the World.
