(Scient’x), the worldwide leader in providing dynamic solutions for both fusion and non-fusion* procedures for the spine, today announced a strategic alliance with Allegheny General Hospital (AGH) in Pittsburgh, PA that will include collaborative biomechanical and clinical research, technology development and medical education.
AGH is a nationally-recognized academic medical center that serves as the flagship hospital of the West Penn Allegheny Health System and a campus of the Drexel University School of Medicine. The hospital is designated as both a Neurosciences Center of Excellence and a Spine Center of Excellence, based on a recent independent study of neurosurgical capabilities and patient care quality at medical centers around the country. AGH is home to one of the nation’s largest and most comprehensive neurosurgical programs and has a longstanding history of pioneering research in the neurosciences field.
Scient’x recently launched its new strategy focusing on dynamic fusion, including the introduction of its Isobar EvolutionTM Dynamic Rod, which is indicated as an adjunct to fusion for the lumbar spine.

According to Donald Whiting, MD, Vice-Chair of Research in AGH’s Department of Neurosurgery and Clinical Co-Director of the hospital’s Neurosurgery, Spine & Biomechanics Research Laboratory, the recent opening of AGH’s Neurosciences Institute and expansion of its research capabilities “has helped open the door to collaborations with biomedical industry leaders like Scient’x.”
The Neurosurgery Spine and Biomechanics Research Laboratory is located within the Allegheny Singer Research Institute (ASRI), the research arm of AGH.
