Veolia Energy to Support New York’s Energy Efficiency Goals

Veolia Energy’s SourceOne consulting division will conduct energy audits of NYPA customers in New York City and Westchester to improve energy efficiency and sustainability practices

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Veolia Energy North America, a leading provider of sustainable energy services and facility operations and management solutions, announced that its subsidiary and consulting division, SourceOne, was recently selected through a competitive bid process by the New York Power Authority (NYPA) to conduct energy efficiency audits at the facilities of NYPA electricity customers in New York City and Westchester County. NYPA is the largest state-owned power organization in the United States, operating 18 generating facilities and more than 1,400 circuit-miles of transmission lines.

Under this four-year service agreement, Veolia Energy will conduct energy audits for NYPA customers that range from large public institutions to small facilities. This agreement will support NYPA’s energy efficiency work to help achieve New York Governor David A. Paterson’s ambitious “45 by 15” initiative to both reduce electricity use by 15 percent below 2015 forecasts and increase the proportion of renewable generation to 30 percent of electricity demand by that year.

Through these audits, Veolia Energy will provide recommendations and will be responsible for the designing of energy-efficiency projects, putting them out to bid, and reviewing and selecting bidders. This will be done in collaboration with the Power Authority and the NYPA customers whose facilities are benefiting from the energy audits.

“We are thrilled to have secured this successful bid with the New York Power Authority to help promote energy efficiency at downstate public facilities,” said Brian Casey, CEO of SourceOne. “We share NYPA’s commitment to energy efficiency and we are pleased to play a role in reducing energy use at existing facilities along with providing future recommendations for incorporating sustainability measures to help these facilities operate in the healthiest, most environmentally sound manner possible.”

A leader in promoting energy efficiency, developing alternative energy sources and advancing clean transportation initiatives, NYPA’s award-winning energy efficiency programs have contributed to helping make New York State a leader in energy savings. NYPA has undertaken energy efficiency and clean energy projects at more than 3,100 public facilities, saving New York taxpayers over $115 million a year and avoiding nearly 817,000 tons of greenhouse gases annually, which translates into the equivalent of avoiding the use of more than 2 million barrels of oil a year. SourceOne is the newest addition to five other firms currently assisting NYPA with downstate energy audits.
