NSTI's Nanotech 2006 Books Record Attendance, Reveals Bullish Outlook for Nanotechnology Projects, Investment

10th Annual Nanotech Event Set for May 20 - 25, 2007 in Santa Clara, CA.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 31, 2006--The Nano Science and Technology Institute (NSTI) today officially announced attendance for its Nanotech 2006 conference and trade show exceeded 3,000 attendees, comprised of research, commercial and investment professionals. The results make NSTI's Nanotech series, begun in 1997, the largest nanotechnology-focused conference in the world.

Nanotech 2006 also revealed researchers and investors have a very bullish outlook for commercialization of a wide array of nanotechnology programs, especially in key strategic sectors for the U.S. economy, such as energy, cancer research, and Homeland Security.

"NSTI Nanotech 2006 in Boston was a record-breaking year where we saw attendance grow to over 3,000," said Dr. Matthew Laudon, Director of the Nano Science and Technology Institute. "During Nanotech 2006, we showcased more than 800 technology presentations from life sciences, manufacturing, energy, security and many other areas. We also offered commercialization, investment and job recruitment co-located events, and all reported record-breaking attendance and interest."

Another factor that drove Nanotech 2006's success was its unique approach to building a true investment-research-productization community for nanotechnology.

"Nanotech 2006 was unique in the world, as this year we focused on bringing together nanotechnology researchers, commercialization experts and representatives from the venture capital investment communities," Laudon said. "By showing both research and commercial professionals how nanotechnology is offering real solutions to a growing number of problems, we are looking to help nanotechnology focus its efforts on results. Our community-building will also be a key theme at Nanotech 2007."

Buoyed by the success of Nanotech 2006, NSTI has announced next year's Nanotech 2007 will be held in California at the Santa Clara Convention Center, May 20-25, 2007. Since 2004, exhibiting companies at NSTI Nanotech conferences have increased by over 100% to more than 200 companies and organizations and the expectation is that number will grow to 300 in '07.

"Nanotech 2007 will mark NSTI's 10th anniversary, and holding the event in California's Silicon Valley, an area known for its innovation and vision, we expect to exceed 3,500 attendees," notes Laudon.

NSTI Nanotech 2007 is assembling the largest-ever Nanotech Ventures program. With Nanotech Ventures, investors receive live, rapid-fire presentations from start-ups and research institutions looking to make their nanotechnology IP available for investment or use. Nanotech 2007 will also co-locate with the TechConnect Summit, which offers licensing and business development opportunities from around the world and across multiple disciplines.

The Nano Job Fair has also signed on to join Nanotech 2007.
