TechConnect speaks with Ryan Dirkx, Vice President, Research & Development, Arkema Inc.
Arkema Ryan Dirkx

What are technology/solution areas that you have a primary interest in?

Largely dedicated to sustainable development, much of our research efforts are focused on meeting the major global challenges. Faced with the depletion of fossil resources, Arkema is developing materials which are contributing to the development of new energies, products made from renewable raw materials and lightweight materials which save energy. Faced with a rising world population and increasing difficulties of access to drinking water, the Arkema group is working on new water treatment solutions. Finally, with organic electronics, the Group is opening the post-silicon era in the field of microelectronics. We believe that advancements in these broad platforms can make a positive societal impact while helping to grow our company

What level of commercial maturity do you typically look for in technology partnerships?

We have successful collaborations at all maturity levels.

Please describe your company’s Innovation model and how this model helps to find new innovations.

What we find more important than commercial maturity, is that we identify a complimentary aspect or synergy to the potential partnership.  We are most interested in finding collaborations where we bring something that will help advance the partner’s move to successful commercialization.

Why work with TechConnect and the National Innovation Summit as a technology prospector?  Who are you looking to meet with?

We are hoping to identify companies that have active and novel developments even somewhat related to the innovation platforms described above.  Thru discussion, we hope to identify synergies with potential collaborators worthy of follow up.
