TechConnect Innovation Tracking: Referentia Systems Inc., a TechConnect Accelerator participant-Asia Pacific Clean Energy Summit, Honolulu, HI, 2012

Referentia Systems Incorporated enables organizations to support modern systems more efficiently and cost effectively, transforming legacy systems and removing technological barriers. Facilitating government, academia and collaboration with private industry, Referentia leads critical infrastructure development solutions that benefit society.  Their solutions expertise includes cyber security, network performance management, the utility smart grid, healthcare information exchange, and aircraft maintenance.

Last August, Referentia Systems was selected to participate at the Asia Pacific Clean Energy Summit’s Defense Energy Technology Challenge in Honolulu, HI. The company presented their CyberWalls PROTECT technology. This technology, a solution for cyber defense of the smart grid, wraps mission-critical applications in a secure encasement to thwart Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs) and 0-day exploits. The solution uses encryption and monitoring technologies to create a barrier between critical applications and other traffic that is traversing the network.

TechConnect News spoke with Tony Giandomenico, Director of Solutions Marketing at Referentia. We asked him what he found most valuable as a participant in the APCESE: “The conference gave us exposure to a mix of innovative people and provided a great networking opportunity.” In explaining some of the benefits of Referentia’s CyberWalls PROTECT (a technology developed with leading government agencies), Tony told that their focus is ”Protection from Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs), Securing Information from Internal Leakage, Safely Maintaining Mission Continuity on Compromised Networks, Providing Cyber Intelligence and easing of Management and Deployment Flexibility.”

Since the conference, Referentia has expanded and is currently focusing on critical infrastructure, specifically working with companies who are either required to receive FISMA NIST (Federal security requirements and security controls) accreditation or are concerned about cyber attacks.  The company is providing security advisement and assessment/authorization to ensure that these organizations meet FISMA NIST compliances, as well as providing different technologies for meeting these controls.

Following NIST’s federal information security strategy of “Build It Right, Then Continuously Monitor”, Referentia has developed 3 pillars of service. First, security consulting: assisting companies to meet NIST compliance, including all 800-53 controls. Second, providing solutions – recommending technology - either off the shelf or Referentia solutions, and third: continuous security monitoring service (once NIST compliant, continuous monitoring is required to ensure against insider or outsider threats to their client).

Strategically headquartered in Honolulu, Hawaii, Referentia is a certified Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB) with locations in San Diego, Calif., Albuquerque, N.M. and Sterling, Va. For further information, please visit the company’s website at: http://www.referentia.com
